One Year Anniversary of Isla Vista

***May 23, 2014***

A day that the families of George Chen, 19; Cheng Yuan “James” Hong, 20; and Weihan “David” Wang, 20, Katherine Breann Cooper, 22; Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, 20; and Veronika Elizabeth Weiss, 19 would never forget. 23-year-old Elliot Rodger took their lives.

This story captivated the news because of the simple misconstrued facts surrounding the murders. One thing captured my attention-Rodger had an intense rage against women that fueled his rampage-he was a racist.

Rodger made no secret about his hatred towards men that women chose over him, especially when they were not white. He opposed interracial dating and made several racist posts regarding African American, Hispanic, South Asian, and East Asians. Rodger said seeing “men of these ethnic groups socializing with white women “makes you want to quit life”.

Rodger frequented a website called www.PUAHate.com, a website known as “The Forefront of the Anti-Pickup-Artist Movement.” Its mission statement, posted on PUAHate’s page, reads:-“Revealing the scams, deception and misleading marketing techniques used by dating gurus and the seduction community to mislead men and profit from them.” It has been noted by the website’s thread forums (which Rodger commented faithfully-the threads have been removed) was very vocal when it came to women dismissing him and men that these women apparently flocked to. In January 2014, Rodger responded to a person who identified himself as an Asian male. One man asked if wearing a type of shoe would increase his chances of dating white women. Rodger said, “Shoes won’t help you get white girls. White girls are disgusted by you, silly little Asian.” His rants went far beyond that to African American men and I quote “How could an inferior, ugly black boy be able to get a white girl and not me? I am beautiful, and I am half-white myself. I am descended from British aristocracy. He is descended from slaves. I deserve it more.” Rodger’s misogyny—brutal anger toward women—which dominates in his videos (they have been taken down by YouTube), is the key to what we are speaking about today. In his last YouTube video, titled “Elliot Rodger’s Retribution”, he complained of rejection by women, describing in details of his planned attack.

It seems not just Rodger, but other men take heed to misogyny…especially within the hip hop culture and African American community. This type of behavior has ranged from defamations to innuendos. Women are known as just a sexual object for men’s gratification.  An analysis of rap lyrics have found that over 30% of lyrics contain misogyny labeling women as “bitch” or “hoe”.  Now, this explains the reason for my first written book, entitled Protect Me: A Guide to Protect Young Black Women from Black Male Pick-Up Artists. The mistreatment of black women is so heightened that no one actually speaks up for us other than to tear them down. Our culture has channeled the mainstream attitudes toward women and subjected our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters to only being known as a sexual object.

To read about how we can protect our daughters and girls, you can pre-order the book by clicking on Get Protection on the side bar.

I am opening this up for discussion.

What do you think? Why have we allowed this to overrun our communities for so long? I want to hear your opinion.
