And this happened…

And then, this happened….

The U.S. Conference of Mayor’s meeting was held on yesterday. When Mayor Muriel E. Bowser rose to speak on the new initiative for a $15 million dollar plan to boost both community programs and police presence (really? Police presence?) in regards to the spike in killings of citizens (mostly black young men) at an alarming 43%, was met with protestors from the BLACK LIVES MATTER Movement. Community activists quickly joined the chants of “Black Lives Matter” with their own demands for jobs and recreation centers. Why were they protesting? BLM was protesting the killing of a Chicago teenager by police and the lead-tainted water supply of Flint, Michigan.

But…here is my most pivotal moment I want to show you.

A protester held up a sign onstage that said, “16 Shots is a cover up. #LaquanMcDonald #ResignRahm.” This was a prominent move on behalf of the movement because it is showing a young black woman making this bold statement. Why? In the age where black women are considered the less desirable of the feminine species….when black women are told everyday by mainstream media they do not matter….when the black man consistently drags our name in the mud….WE CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR YOU!!!

Watch the video below:

Did you see that? Do you see who is completing this task?

You see women, black women, in the forefront of this movement. I don’t see anyone fighting for their sons and daughters as we are. The power is in the hands of black women to change the infrastructure that has been handed down to us. I had a conversation with my teenage daughter this morning in regards to Stacey Dash’s comments on FOX News (she is really a self-hating black woman). My daughter could not understand how she could openly and blatantly approve of the masses that tear us as black women down every day. I could not respond the way I wanted to but I gave her the advice that never allow someone else to dictate who you are-you give them power when you do. And I left it alone…

But nevertheless….BLACK WOMEN ARE ON THE FOREFRONT OF THIS MOVEMENT. We are standing up for you? When will you stand up for us???
